I was born in Anchorage, Alaska and raised in Sacramento, California. I recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine located in Orange County, California where I received a BA in Sociology with minors in both Educational Studies and History, graduating in just four short years. While at UC Irvine I spent my time as a member and eventually President of the UCI chapter of Circle K International, a Campus Representative (so much more than just a tour guide!), a Resident Advisor of the best residence hall in the history of time, and much much more.
The most
influential program I took part in during college was the UCDC program
which assists UC students in obtaining internships while living in
Washington DC. During the summer of 2005 I worked in DC at the National Peace Corps Association, a non-profit organization that acts as a place
for returned Peace Corps volunteers (RPCVs) and related peoples to
join together for various causes. Departments and programs include:
global education, advocacy, membership groups, WorldView magazine, and
more. During my internship I worked primarily with Global TeachNet
projects, helping to develop and disperse global education materials to
interested educators, parents, and other parties. Meeting and working amongst many RPCVs helped to cement my decision to join the Peace Corps after college graduation. During my time in the District, Washington DC also became my fourth home
falling not far behind my beloved Sacramento, Irvine, and Anchorage.
Although I am interested in going into the International
Development field for a career, I am also hoping the experience
of living and working abroad will be an opportunity to explore other avenues and
test the waters of post-college life. I am leaving my options open and after close of service in September of 2008, I may
do any number of things.
